Below, is the Motorcycle Headlight
Modulator module installation:
Inside the headlight housing is where
I mounted all the components of the headlight modulator: This
includes the switch (in the purple box in the photo above), the
box that you already saw above, and a photo sensor (shown in
the purple box in the next photo below).
The switch has 3 modes: Off, Auto and
Standby. In "Off," the modulator doesn't function.
In "Auto," the photo sensor
can tell whether it's day or night then automatically pulsates
the HighBeem at 240 pulses per minute in the daylight. It doesn't
work on LowBeam, unless you toot the horn, then it pulsates for
3 seconds. In "Standby" mode, the unit functions for
3 seconds by beeping the horn in either High or Low Beam. This
feature provides for both an audible and visual alert if you
think someone driving a cage hasn't noticed you are about to
get creamed by them.
The "Standby" mode is good if
you don't want to have your headlight flickering in HighBeam
during the day, but want instant access to the modulator in case
you need it.
I leave it in "Auto" all the
time because that's what I bought the thing for, so I can be
seen. I place it in "Standby" while driving at night,
because the strobe effect will drive you nuts if it should go
on by itself for any reason.
I tested it by beeping the horn at night
in "Standby" mode, and it was like a strobe light at
a party. Neat effect.
In the picture above, you can see where
I mounted the photo sensor that distinguishes between day and
night.
I used to have a sentence here that said, "In a few days (I'm lazy
.. who am I kidding?), I'll place a couple photos of how I mounted
the Headlight Modulator inside the headlight housing." Well, before I moved to Korea, I never got around
to shooting these photos, so they'll probably never be put here.
I bought the headlight modulator and a
brake light flasher from these guys (click below) so I can
be seen:
If you'd like to see about Signal Dynamics'
BackOff Brake Light Signal Module, which flashes your brake light
3 times real quick, then holds it on for 4.5 seconds, and then
repeats the cycle as long as you hold the brake on, visit their
web site above. I put one of these on my bike too, and am glad
I have the added visual protection in the rear.
